5Mastering the Mysteries of Focus

Correct focus is another critical aspect of taking a technically optimized photograph. You want your main subject to be in sharp focus generally (there are exceptions), and may want other parts of the image to be equally as sharp, or you may want to let them become blurry to use selective focus techniques.

If you’re coming from the point-and-shoot camera world, focus was probably no big deal for you. These models have tiny sensors and short focal length lenses, with, say, a 6-36mm true zoom range (but billed as a 28-168mm “equivalent”).
