The autofocus system found in the Sony a7 IV is one of its most innovative features. The camera has the ability to lock in on subjects, including people and animals (birds, dogs, and cats—using face/eye detection), and track motion. Compared to the a7 IV’s predecessor model, this camera can seamlessly switch between eye, face, and body tracking, and use these modes when shooting video, as well. And if your subject isn’t a person or suitable animal, the camera can deploy pattern detection and use both subject color and brightness to find and lock focus.

The a7 IV is even able to focus in dimmer environments than before: down to –4 EV with a lens having an f/2 maximum aperture. For those who can’t calculate ...
