This appendix explains how to explore XML data in DB2 and how to run basic commands in the DB2 Command Line Processor (CLP) and SPUFI. Note that the CLP is not only available for DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows but also for DB2 for z/OS as an application that requires Unix System Services.
Before you can start writing XML queries or updates you need to know the structure of the XML documents. A good approach is to look at one or several representative sample documents. You can use the DB2 Control Center, IBM Data Studio, or commands issued in the CLP or SPUFI to view the structure of XML documents.
