Preface to the Second Edition

It’s been a little more than five years since I completed work on the first edition of this book. And now it’s been more than twenty years since the day when Tom Mentzer stopped into my office to ask me if I wanted to do some work with him on forecasting, to which I replied “Sure, Tom, what’s forecasting?” In those twenty plus years, I’ve learned a lot about what constitutes excellence in demand forecasting. And in those five plus years, I’ve learned even more about how important it is to place demand forecasting in the context of corporatewide Demand/Supply Integration (DSI) process. It’s the additional insight I’ve gained since the first edition was released that has led to this new edition.
