Part III. Administering Windows Vista

The administration portion of this book begins by taking an in-depth look at how you manage Windows Vista systems once they are deployed. It is built on the CASPR system, which is made up of five aspects:

  • Controlling change in your environment

  • Administering your systems

  • Securing your infrastructure

  • Protecting information your users generate

  • Recovering systems or information when issues occur

Each of the chapters in this portion of the book covers one aspect of the CASPR system.

Relying on the CASPR system will ensure that each aspect of system management will be completely covered and will vastly reduce the efforts required to create a stable and solid Vista PC infrastructure.

Part III begins by addressing the first two aspects of CASPR: change management (Chapter 9) and administration (Chapter 10). Change management focuses on two core Vista technologies: Group Policy, which lets you manage one or a multitude of computers, and event management — a technology that was completely rewritten for this edition of Windows — as well as task scheduling, another technology that is completely new in Vista.
