PPP over ATM
Although most earlier deployments were based on the bridging architecture, PPPoA is popular today, and because of the tremendous advantages it offers, PPPoA might be the chosen access encapsulation method for many SPs serving business customers.
The PPPoA baseline architecture is designed with an assumption of providing high-speed Internet access and corporate access to the end subscriber by using PPPoA and ATM as the core backbone. This architecture is discussed mainly based on PVCs because that is what the majority of the current deployments are using. The content of the section is based on existing deployments, as well as some in-house tests done on this architecture.
