The initial sketch process,
accomplished by hand,
explored a variety of options,
such as iconic imagery of honey-
combs and bees, as well as
strictly typographic ideas. The
simplicity of icons reflected
the immediacy and directness
of the naming concept. Linear
elements abstractly plot the
flight path of a bee.
The design process began with
naming the product, so the
designers developed word lists
to crystallize ideas. Naming
options, such as FreeBee, were
conceived of to be simple,
friendly, and clever regarding
the source of the honey prod-
uct—exfelons. Beeline won
out as the most optimistic in
its metaphor.
