While some rough hand-
sketching preceded full-blown
development, Remphrey
moved very quickly into creat-
ing artwork for the various
elements of the identity after
showing the image research
that supported his central
idea
—
nineteenth century
postage and related ephemera.
This direction, and the
vineyard’s name, stemmed
from the fact that a local mail
carrier rested his horses on
the property before it became
a vineyard.
Cancellation stamps, mailing
stamps, postal tickets, and the
surfaces of letterboxes all con-
tribute possibilities toward a
varied, textural environment.
