Research as unpublished work

Times have certainly changed. A glance through older manuscripts and books will reveal that a mere half-century ago, citing a doctoral dissertation listed it as unpublished would often occur. Academic CVs would typically include a short section dedicated to unpublished works produced towards academic qualifications.

The process required to produce the completed dissertation would have been more onerous and would have included many steps:

  • Handwriting each page of text in legible handwriting

  • Transferring the handwritten pages to a typist

  • Typing of the content

  • Collecting the finished pages

  • Proofreading ...
