COLUMN SPLICES AND BASES
9.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter deals with both column splices and column bases. Column splice means joining the two parts of a column, whereas column base means supporting the lower end of a column on a foundation. The common feature between these is the use of bearing plates. Since, bearing plates are used in both the cases of column bases and also for splicing columns of different sizes.
9.2 COLUMN SPLICES
In practice, the splicing of columns is to be done to get the required height. In multi-storey buildings, it is very convenient to splice the column just above the floor.
