In general, structural performance measures are categorized as global and local measures. Global measures, such as volume or weight, vibration frequency, compliance, and buckling load, are measured for the entire structure. On the other hand, measures such as stresses or displacements are defined at specific points or small areas (e.g., average stress in a finite element).
