Appendix A. EAGLE Library Files

EAGLE provides access to electrical components through libraries. Each library corresponds to a *.lbr file in the top-level lbr directory. Most library files contain components for a single manufacturer. For example, the zilog.lbr library file contains components from Zilog, Inc.

Library files are plain text files that can be easily read or written to. Their content is formatted according to XML, the eXtensible Markup Language. XML is popular in the world of software development because it provides a structured, hierchical means of storing data.
