Looking to the Future: Research Challenges

In this book we present the concepts and significance of embodied interaction design, specifically for tangible and gesture-based interaction. Embodied interaction is very different from the way that we traditionally communicate with machines because the user can use their body in ways in which they are used to using them in the natural physical world to interact with digital systems. Creating embodied interactive systems is challenging for a number of reasons, including technical and research. In this chapter, we present our understanding of the challenges in embodied interaction design from two different perspectives: design challenges and research challenges.
