12.7. System Design with the Diamond 545CK DSP Core

The 545CK DSP core is unique among the Diamond cores in having two load/store units. These units allow the DSP to perform two simultaneous memory transactions, often called XY memory access by DSP system designers. Each of the 545CK DSP’s load/store units has its own interface to local memory so these two interfaces to each local-memory block must be joined using logic that multiplexes and arbitrates access to the associated memory block. Figure 12.6 illustrates a system with logic blocks called “Connector Boxes” that provide the multiplexing and arbitration functions.
