Virginia M. Satir
Virginia M. Satir, M.A., A.C.S.W. (University of Chicago), for over forty years has practiced and extensively taught psychotherapy, her primary interest being family systems. She is often considered the “Columbus” of family therapy. She has coauthored four books and authored five. Additionally, there are a number of books about her work. She is recipient of the Distinguished Family Therapy Award from the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Cofounder of the Mental Research Institute, past president of the Association of Humanistic Psychology, she is socially active and works at the policy level to improve the lot of disadvantaged populations.
