People learn from their experiences. Research and practice show there are three key elements that make the difference between an average experience and one that drives leader development: assessment, challenge, and support (see Chapter 1 for a complete discussion). As you are responsible for developing leadership talent in your organization, designing a development strategy around experiences that combine these elements is more likely to bring about the results your organization needs.
