Protecting Your Data
Anyone who works in the broadcast field is well aware of the central dilemma facing content owners. How do we protect our intellectual property on the one hand but still make our assets available for use by our legitimate customers? It’s a tricky proposition, but there are a few interesting safeguards you can use, even though no content-protection method is foolproof.
The protection scheme is added as kind of wrapper around the content. Our metadata can describe the range and scope of the usage rights to avoid accidentally using the assets in a context that breaks the license conditions. We should be able to ‘red-light’ the item in a content search if necessary.
