When considering how to make improvements in your organization, you can easily get a bit overwhelmed or, after deciding on a plan, you can want to jump in all at one time. It’s a bit like setting a New Year’s resolution to lose 15 pounds: You’re tempted to cut calories dramatically and head to the gym every day. Although such an approach may seem ideal, it’s likely to be unsustainable. For most people, it’s too much change, too fast. DevOps transformations are a bit of the same. You have to leverage small wins and build momentum.

In this chapter, I suggest ways to get a baseline idea of where you’re starting from and track your progress as you continue implementing DevOps. You also find out specific questions for employee surveys and understand the difference between quantitative and qualitative case studies.
