Abstract

In this selected guide to scattering studies of disordered alloys and related materials, the issue of atom size is prominent in the scattering data. A few examples will be covered that include cases of Bragg scattering strongly affected by a static Debye-Waller factor (C in Fe) [1] or a crystallographic determination of the Cr ion position (size) in ruby [2]. We have also collected lattice parameter and diffuse scattering data that required a reconsideration of the structure and diffusion in very dilute rapidly diffusing Au in Pb [35].
