Audio enhancement

Introduction

Audio enhancement is the term used to describe the procedure of improving the quality of an audio recording. It is crucial to the justice system, due to both the generally poor quality of audio relied upon in legal cases and the potential these recordings have for providing compelling evidence.

As discussed in previous chapters, forensic audio recordings are a world away from those produced in recording studios. It would be a rare occurrence to have a recording which is to be used for legal purposes that would not be improved to some degree by enhancement processes due to the less-than-ideal capture conditions.
