Assignment 20Neutral Colors

“I think good dreaming is what leads to good photographs.”

—Wayne Miller

Purpose: To Recognize Neutral Colors.

Black, white, and gray are no-hue colors. Black is a low-value, no-hue color; gray is an intermediate-value, no-hue color; and white is a high-value, no-hue color. Developing a visual awareness of color needs to include an awareness of these three no-hue colors.

For this assignment locate as many subjects as you can that are predominantly black, white, or gray. Other colors may be present, but the three neutrals should predominate. Try to include some areas of gray as reference for white subjects, and as transitional tones for black subjects.
