We live in an intellectually challenging time for witnessing, participating in and studying the emergence of new media, especially digital media immediately connected to problematic issues of visuality. Problematic concern lies within contexts of visual culture, human interaction, social relationships and competent participation in everyday life. Digital capabilities continue to contribute to camera-mediated sociality in different and more varied ways than initially expected. The pace of technological change has been impressive and begs the question: Have interests and abilities of the scholarly community kept pace in theoretical and practical ways?
