Far away and still so close

When I left my home country 11 years ago I had already lived far from home for three years but still within the boundaries of the Spanish state and culture. Going abroad was something different for me and it meant a bigger change for my family as well. Back then, phone calls abroad were very expensive and, from my home in rural Spain, almost nobody had an internet connection. A few months after my arrival in Germany I sent my sister a couple of photographs from my first adventures in North Rhine Westphalia, which she printed and hung on the wall of my old bedroom. ...
