Appendix C: reception of the digital TV channels of ASTRA and EUTELSAT

The new digital satellites operate mainly in the so-called DBS band (11.7-12.5 GHz); this band has until now been used in circular polarization by high power satellites such as TDF 1/2, Hispasat, etc. At 19.2°E, ASTRA 1E and 1F provide 40 channels in the DBS band. These channels are 33 MHz wide and situated on a grid with a 19.5 MHz step. ASTRA 1G added 16 channels of 26 MHz on a grid of 14.75 MHz in the so-called ‘Telecom’ band (12.5 to 12.75 GHz).

Positioned on 28.2°E, the new ASTRA 2 family of satellites (used among others by BSkyB digital services) use the same channels.
