Abstract

Smart grids and power systems are important infrastructures that play an important role in ensuring reliable and efficient energy distribution. To address the increasing demands and complexities in modern energy management, the integration of advanced/emerging technologies like machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and the Internet of Things (IoT) has become essential. This paper provides an overview of the application of ML, DL, and IoT in the context of smart grids and power systems. Machine learning techniques are employed for various tasks such as demand forecasting, fault detection, and optimization of energy resources. Deep learning, with its capabilities in handling large datasets and complex patterns, enhances grid operation, including load balancing and anomaly detection. IoT devices, connected across the grid, enable real-time data collection and control, contributing to efficient energy distribution and consumption. This chapter discusses the synergistic benefits of combining ML, DL, and IoT technologies, highlighting their roles in enhancing grid resilience, reducing energy wastage, and enabling grid ...
