Programme production and audio

Many news and magazine items are shot by a single operator. The cameraman is responsible for pictures, lighting and audio. This section of the manual deals with audio that is recorded in this way although this does not mean the control of audio should be passed over to the ubiquitous auto-gain. No cameraman would be happy with a camera that had no viewfinder, simply an auto composition/auto shot selection button. This is the visual equivalent of auto-gain – allowing the camera to make all the audio decisions.
