Nielsen’s Audience Insight: U.S. DVR Penetration and Usage

Introduction

Nielsen first introduced DVRs in its National People Meter (NPM) panel in January 2006. Over 2 years later, U.S. DVR penetration and usage continue to grow and evolve. This report provides new insight on the characteristics of DVR households and their time-shifted viewing. It also includes a special analysis of how the viewing behavior of a household changes when it first acquires a DVR and after it has had a DVR over a long period of time. Some highlights of our findings include the following:

•  U.S. DVR penetration is now 25%, according to NPM panel.
