TACTIC 8Design: Minimum Viable Business Product Design

A cartoon illustration of a person drawing a design. The text below reads, 08, design.

The design process is where you should start product development as an entrepreneur because it allows you to iterate extremely quickly, which saves precious time. Entrepreneurs can build out the user experience they envision and test it with customers before ever writing a line of code or manufacturing physical products.

You have already tested elements of your business plan, and the Minimum Viable Business Product (MVBP) is a test of a product that actually provides value to your customer. More than that however, the MVBP is the simplest product you can provide that creates value for the customer, allows you to collect money from the customer (they actually pay for it!), and creates a feedback loop for improvement. If you've built a business plan then you likely already know what the MVBP will do. Now you can answer this question: What does the MVBP look like? All before you've actually built it.

With this initial design, you can test with users to refine things. These iteration cycles between design and user testing allow you to identify the product specifications most likely to succeed and most meaningful to end users before you begin building.
