Commitment
Being dedicated to a cause or even a goal does not mean that we should always have a virtuous reason for the direction we choose to take.
In terms of commitment, I do rather like the analogy of showing strong loyalty and positive support, resulting in affirmative action towards someone or something other than ourselves.
Commitment is not just something we keep in our heads; it needs to be displayed and felt by other people as well. The more committed we are towards our goals or ideals, and the more we share that commitment with others, the more they will be on board with our thinking and the likelihood of achievement increases.
