What Else Is There, and Why?

The hardest task of trying to put together an introduction to a complex and convoluted subject such as SQL is deciding which concepts and features to include and which to leave out. The SQL Standard maintained by the International Standards Organization (ISO) lists hundreds of features grouped in nine sections, and RDBMS vendors and organizations add hundreds more. This chapter introduces some concepts normally left for more advanced books because we believe that you need to be aware of their existence even when you are just learning the ropes.
