Macbeth’s witches

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Objective

To explore the lighting of a highly atmospheric scene involving phenomena which appear to be supernatural.

Setting

The second witch’s scene from Macbeth (Act IV Scene I). The acting area is surrounded by black drapes (Figure P.15). The scene, assembled from found objects including a ‘cauldron’, and the manner in which the various apparitions and kings appear, are devised by the lighting group collaborating on the project.

Rig

A maximum of 20 lights including the 10 specified (plus flooding for optional sky cloth) may be used.

Contraction and expansion
