3.8 Applying Intervention Effects
HTA models must, of course, incorporate the effects of one or more tech-
nologies assessed relative to a reference comparator. Depending on the
specications for the HTA, the comparator may be a particular other tech-
nology reecting the current standard of care or may be no intervention
(e.g., inevaluations of screening technologies, where no screening is often the
alternative). In some cases, the comparison may be with a mix of alterna-
