Metadata variables for headers and footers

Map metadata comes from elements and attributes in your map or bookmap. To get this information into a header or footer, you first have to put it into a variable, and most of the time, you have to create the variable yourself. When you create a variable, you give it a name and a value.

You can give a variable nearly any name you want, but to avoid possibly illegal values, I recommend you only use alphanumeric characters and avoid spaces and special characters. Do not choose a name that’s already in use in the PDF plugin. A few names to avoid are: count, topicNumber, topicTitle, topicType, locale, and value.
