Diversity, which is defined as the availability of difference and variation, is a concept that finds use across all disciplines of science, humanities and the arts. Diversity is an inclusive concept in its essence, based on the assumption of coexistence of differences and variations in social, environmental, symbolic and material worlds. The plurality of its definitions and uses is the main strength and limitation of the concept of diversity. It is possible to adopt a definition of diversity to serve almost any end.
