Work That Workshop

Once you’ve established the other three pieces of your writing network, or casa, consider joining a writing workshop or critique group. Most traditional MFA programs put the workshop front and center. It is the most important component of the curriculum and is usually required every semester. At DIY MFA the workshop isn’t as central, but that does not diminish its importance. The reason I put less emphasis on the workshop than you might see in a traditional MFA program is because, first and foremost, I believe in empowering writers.
