Craft Your Author Identity

The world has a romantic notion of the reclusive author. We picture someone hiding in a cabin in the woods, huddled over a typewriter as words pour forth onto the page. We imagine this author handing a stack of parchment to a publisher who, like a literary Rumpelstiltskin, spins the author’s words into gold. Heaven forbid the brilliant writer taint himself by dealing with things as base and slimy as sales, marketing, and (gasp!) money. Worse yet, authors who do embrace the business side of the book world are branded as sellouts who have traded true art for profit.
