In the late 18th century, before the museums and lavish hotels of East Madrid took shape, the Paseo del Prado was laid out and soon became a fashionable spot for strolling. Combine this original attraction with visits to the Paseo’s museums and art galleries to make the most of the area. Take a detour to visit the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Museo del Prado (just south of the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo).
