This walk follows the slopes of Tokyo’s High City (known as Yamanote) down to the flat, river lands of the Low City (Shitamachi). While the names are unofficial and the boundaries have never been formally defined, the split between the High City and Low City has existed in Tokyo culture since the Tokugawa Shogunate was established here in 1603.
