Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Venerated as the site of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, this is the holiest venue in all Christendom, and an intensely spiritual place – irrespective of one’s religious persuasion. In AD 326, Emperor Constantine began building the first church here. The basilica was destroyed by the Persians in AD 614 and by the Fatimid Sultan Hakim in 1009, then rebuilt by the Crusaders between 1114 and 1170.
