Formats

Documents can be created from various sources, including desktop and enterprise applications. These sources use varying approaches for organizing the content within the document and use different file name extensions. A Documentum repository can store any kind of document but it associates a format with each document. The format is typically used to identify the application that can understand the contents of the document.
