The taxation system of China is quite complex due to the numerous administrative orders issued by the Chinese tax authorities supplementing or amending tax laws and regulations. The taxes that are most relevant to foreign businesses are those levied on FIEs and foreign enterprises (FEs).
1. Taxes Levied on FIEs
The main types of tax applicable to FIEs can be divided into two groups depending on the tax levying authorities: taxes levied by tax bureaus and customs duties levied by Customs:
