VISUAL WEIGHT FOR BALANCE AND EMPHASIS
As you create compositions, you need to think about why you are making them. Each drawing should have a clarity of purpose. You need to know what you are trying to say, to express. To help with expression you can use visual weight. Each motif that is added to a composition has an effect on the whole. It is necessary to be aware of this as you build up your composition.
As you darken some lines and leave others less dark, as you use shading to fill in some shapes and not others, you are changing the visual weight of those motifs.
