CONSTRUCTING CREATURES
Approaching a drawing becomes a much simpler process when you begin by breaking down the subject into basic forms, or three-dimensional shapes. And these simple shapes, with a little refinement, easily can become body parts of your creature. In my drawings, cylinders often act as the underlying forms of legs, and cubes usually become feet. (See the examples for a demonstration of this drawing method.) That’s all there is to the first step of every drawing: sketching the shapes and developing the forms. After that, it’s just a matter of connecting and refining the lines and adding details.
