Handmade and computer-generated images can coexist very successfully if each plays to their strengths. The skilled hand will give a relaxed and simple line, focusing of necessity on representing essentials; unless the computer is allowed to exploit its full potential for the complex representation of three-dimensional form, materiality and lighting, its output is likely to appear bland in comparison. The strengths of the two instruments may, however, be combined at all stages of the design process.
