CHAPTER 7 How to Draw Ears

Ears, like other facial features, have their own Asaro planes that will help you frame and understand them in three-dimensional space. Unlike the eyes or nose, however, your subjects’ ears may not be a focal point—or even visible. It all depends on the angle and reference you are working with. Whether the ears are on full display, partially obscured, or completely covered, though, the principal structure of the Asaro planes remains the same. In this chapter, I’ll walk you step by step through plane construction as well as how to draw ears from the three most common portrait angles: profile, straight on, and a three-quarter turn.
