Author's acknowledgments

I would like to thank the many contributors who supported the creation, development, and production of this book. A book about drawing requires a lot of varied visual material. Many practices and students have generously allowed their work to be used in this book.

Throughout the development of this book the staff and students at Portsmouth School of Architecture, UK, have provided examples of many types of drawing at many stages of the design process and their flexibility and interest has been invaluable. In particular, the third-year architecture students and members of my postgraduate design studio “The European City” have provided examples and experiments of drawings and visual material enthusiastically.
