STEP BY STEP SKETCHING THE DUOMO, FLORENCE, ITALY

Sketching is the easiest way to start understanding a place, allowing the observer to connect the spaces between the buildings, to understand the scale of spaces and streets, the relative heights of buildings, and the massing of the city. This series of sketches was made while standing in a narrow side street, looking toward a part of the Duomo (1420–36), the Cathedral in Florence, Italy.
