The Dutch are experts at reclaiming land from the sea, which brings with it the potential for new cities. One of these, Almere, founded in 1984, is set to become the fifth largest city in The Netherlands. MVRDV are masterplanners for Vision 2030, a project that comprises all of Almere, as well as future development in surrounding areas, and incorporates OlympiaKwartier, a dense urban district masterplanned by Mecanoo architects in 2007.
