17 Entertainment II

In an ongoing attempt to get the students to loosen up and quit trying to draw exact replicas of the model, I remind the class the audiences that come to see the films we make like to be entertained. They are not interested in how well we can draw. And as any cartoonist worth his pencil dust would do, Dan Boulos latched on to that one and turned it into “entertainment.”

My thanks to Dan for inadvertently helping me put over a point. The point is that there is a need, of course, to improve our ability to draw anatomy (especially hands and faces), drapery, textures, etc., but what is done with that skill is what the gesture class ...
