Adding a menu item

Those of us not yet familiar with Drupal jargon will possibly find the heading of this section a little misleading. It sounds as though we're about to add a link to one of the navigation menus on the site, but that is not the case.

Within the Drupal cosmos the phrase menu item actually refers to a URL path, that is, the web path to a node or piece of content. What we mean here by adding a menu item is that we are going to register a form URL with the Drupal menu system. URL paths that are not registered with the menu system will return a Page not found error, because Drupal could not find an entry for that path within its menu system.
